Praful Lakra

PIPC Co-Chair and Representative for Asia

Praful Lakra, of the Kurukh (Oraon) People in India, is a seasoned social work professional with over 14 years of experience advocating for marginalized tribal communities in India. A Master’s in Social Work (MSW) graduate, Praful has a deep commitment to tribal rights, including the Forest Rights Act, Right to Food, and women and children’s rights. He has worked with several organizations such as Ursuline Convent Kodaura, Chaupal Gramin Vikash, and Jashapur Jan Vikas Sanstha, where he has coordinated and managed programs aimed at community empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and human rights advocacy.

Praful has been actively involved in capacity-building initiatives, particularly for community leaders, youth, and women, and has contributed to several research projects and reports used for advocacy. His experience spans project planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and documentation. In addition, he has represented Indigenous communities at international forums, attending workshops and training sessions in countries like Thailand, Bhutan, and Indonesia, focusing on Indigenous Peoples’ human rights and sustainable development.
