Basiru Isa

PIPC Representative for Francophone Africa

Basiru Isa, an Indigenous youth from Cameroon, has over 15 years of experience defending and promoting Indigenous Peoples’ rights, with a strong focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He currently serves as the Regional Secretary General of the Network of Indigenous Peoples for Sustainable Forest Ecosystem Management in Central Africa (REPALEAC) and heads its Program Department.

As the Focal Point for the Indigenous Peoples Major Group (IPMG) and Technical Secretary for SDGs in Africa, Basiru coordinates and mobilizes Indigenous communities to engage in SDG processes at national and regional levels. He holds a Master’s in Social Sciences from the University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon, and is awaiting his PhD at the same institution.

Basiru has also gained extensive experience working with international organizations like the UNHCR, FAIRMED, UNICEF, MBOSCUDA, CED, and NES, in roles such as Project Coordinator, Program Manager, and Field Manager. Additionally, he has a strong background in scientific research and publishing.
