Basiru Isa

PIPC Representative for Francophone Africa

Basiru Isa, a young Indigenous person from Cameroon, has over 15 years of experience defending and promoting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, with a strong focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He is currently Regional Secretary General of the Indigenous Peoples’ Network for the Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa (REPALEAC) and heads its Program Department.

As focal point for the Indigenous Peoples Major Group (IPMG) and Technical Secretary for the SDGs in Africa, Basiru coordinates and mobilizes Indigenous communities to participate in SDG processes at the national and regional levels. He holds a master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Yaoundé 1 (Cameroon) and is awaiting his doctorate from the same institution.

Basiru has also gained extensive experience working with international organizations such as UNHCR, FAIRMED, UNICEF, MBOSCUDA, CED, and NES, in roles such as project coordinator, program manager, and field manager. In addition, he has a strong background in scientific research and publication.
