Luis Pinto is a phytotechnical and zootechnical engineer with a master’s degree in agribusiness and environmental management, a postgraduate degree in development project formulation, and several diplomas in food security, agroecology, and water management. From 2010 to 2023, he worked with the FAO, where he coordinated multiple strategic projects focused on Indigenous Peoples and rural communities. He led key initiatives such as Seeds for Development, Mesoamerica Without Hunger, and projects on the restoration of Indigenous production systems, productive inclusion, and post-COVID support. His work stands out for the design and implementation of innovative methodologies for engagement with Indigenous communities, including rainwater harvesting, storage, and purification systems for human and school consumption, later scaled up as national public policy with support from the IDB and the World Bank. He also promoted Indigenous-led technical assistance models and economic empowerment programs for Indigenous women across several regions of Panama.
